2011 County Waterford Community & Voluntary Awards

Published: 5 September 2011

Just over 2 WEEKS to Apply - Closing date Friday 23rd September

This scheme recognises and celebrates the commitment and vibrancy of the community and voluntary sectors in County Waterford.

This is a new category and will be an opportunity to showcase and recognise social enterprise activity in the county. The contact for the awards is Muriel Tobin (Community Forum Administrator, murieltobin@waterfordcoco.ie, 058 21198). I am forwarding a nomination form received from Muriel and would appreciate it if you could give this award some special consideration.

Under each of the six categories the award will be €500. The overall winner will receive a further €800 a commemorative piece of local Artwork and a live outside Broadcast by WLRfm to take place in 2012. The Awards will be presented at an Awards Ceremony on November 25th in Clonea Strand Hotel.

The Award Guidelines state that..

This [social enterprise] award recognises the development of Social Enterprise, which represents businesses with primarily social or environmental aims and objectives.  These businesses operate using commercial business models but principally reinvest any profits/surpluses generated back into their community or social beneficiary, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners.  Social enterprises can be large or small, they can sell, trade or produce almost anything.  They differ from mainstream business in that they are driven by a social/environmental mission, and they are wholly focused on the people and the community they serve. Examples include: Youth & Childcare projects, Community Health Services, Art’s, Heritage & Culture projects, Media/Tourism/Training programmes, Community Enterprises, Credit Unions and Community Transport.
