Social Enterprise is an exciting, challenging and vibrant sector which is addressing real issues for communities, key sections of society and individuals locally, regionally, nationally, at a European level and internationally. It combines the purpose of a social mission with the discipline of an enterprise.  It is a fast growing sector, increasingly being recognised as a vehicle for improving society,

 

SERI is a purpose-driven organisation that acts as the voice of the social enterprise practitioner and intends to drive the future growth of the sector by acting as a disruptor/catalyst for positive change. This will be achieved by developing challenging policy positions, engaging in international debates, dissemination of best practices from abroad and using modern media to ensure the sector delivers to the optimum levels!

 

SERI is led by a dynamic team of SE founders <see here> who thrive on challenge, co-creation and collaboration. We are future focused and open minded and are looking for an entrepreneurial CEO who can lead and drive SERI forward. 

 

A key priority for SERI will be working on the delivery of the second national SE policy currently being developed by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

 

Our CEO will shape and deliver the vision and mission of SERI at a time of tremendous opportunity and change in the ecosystem. They will have responsibility for leading the strategic direction and management of SERI and will oversee the implementation of the SERI Strategic Plan.  They will be responsible for best practice with respect to policy, advocacy, communication, financial, project management, people management and will support the Board to achieve required standards of compliance and governance. A key feature of this role is the engagement with social enterprise practitioners and working in a collaborative way with social enterprise support organisations both in Ireland and further afield. In this role they will have the opportunity to grow their own skill set, brand and positively impact social enterprise across the country and beyond.

 

 

Duties & Key Responsibilities of the Role : 

​

Advocacy and Collaboration

  • As an ambassador for SERI, building and managing relationships with key policy makers, decision makers and public bodies across the island of Ireland to develop and participate in appropriate partnerships across all levels.

  • Building and nurturing effective coalitions and alliances on priority issues and campaigns

  • Collaborating with other key sector organisations to adopt a holistic and coherent approach to developing and supporting the sector

 

Membership

  • Stimulating appropriate plans to develop and grow SERI membership

  • Keeping members informed of information and developments that are relevant to them

  • Development and maximisation of the SERI Practitioner Council structure 

 

Strategic and Project Management

  • Ensuring that a long-term strategy and resulting business plans are in place to guide SERI towards achieving its objectives.

  • Protecting the overall financial stability of SERI through sound business planning, ensuring the organisation has the human, material and financial resources it needs to operate effectively and efficiently.

  • Delivering projects and initiatives which are prioritised for the sector.

 

Communications

  • Building and maintaining a strong brand and reputation for SERI, including representing SERI at events, publications and resource development.

  • Making submissions to Government departments and other relevant bodies.

  • Developing and overseeing the use of social media and other digital communications techniques across SERI communications.

  • Working with the sector to refine and amplify the voice of social enterprise

Fundraising

  • Working closely with the relevant members of the SERI Board to develop appropriate plans & budgets to maximise fundraising opportunities and activities across Ireland.

 

Corporate Governance

  • Supporting the Board of SERI in developing the long-term strategic aims and immediate policy agenda of the organisation.

  • Facilitating regular Board meetings, reporting to the Board on progress, providing information and being accountable for organisational performance.

  • Overseeing the financial management of the organisation including preparation of budgets, accounts and financial reports.

  • Ensuring governance obligations are met.

  • Management of other SERI staff and contractors

 

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following

 

  • Strong passion, knowledge and experience of social enterprise, with a forward thinking viewpoint on Social Enterprise and its potential.

  • Grass roots understanding of Social Enterprise and is connected and has a track record of engaging the practitioner community.

  • Credibility to be viewed as the 'Voice of Social Enterprise’, is commanding and has the ability to influence, communicate and work across geographies with people at all levels across Government, Political, Social Enterprise etc.

  • Broad minded, open to new ideas, research and new ways of working.

  • Results focused with the ability to negotiate and drive the best outcomes for the sector.

  • Collaborative, works effortlessly across our PC, Board, SE and wider stakeholders.

This is a key support role, reporting to the CEO and one that presents a huge learning and impact opportunity to the successful candidate. 

 

The role presents a unique opportunity to positively contribute to the development of SERI and the Social Enterprise community in Ireland. Working in a small but vibrant organisation, we are looking for a strong team player, flexible in approach, a fast learner with a commitment to delivery of the highest standards. You will be entrepreneurial in your approach/mindset, able to work independently, seek support when needed, be creative and solution orientated and have the ability to juggle a varied workload.  In return, you will be self directed in your work schedule, given scope to impact and opportunities to progress in role and beyond the role.

  • Take responsibility for the overall administration of SERI

  • Further develop and manage the SERI monthly members e-zine and its web presence

  • Research and compile relevant content

  • Respond to member queries

  • Provide administrative support to the General Manager

  • Other administrative tasks as directed by the General Manager
