SERI Note: Launch of Cavan County Local Development Social Enterprise Strategy 2021-2026.
Brendan Whelan, SERI Director, and Fiona Nolan, Vice-Chair SERI Practitioner Council, recently attended the launch of the Cavan County Local Development Social Enterprise Strategy 2021-2026.
Launched by Minister Heather Humphreys, the research indicated that there was significant social enterprise activity in Cavan operating for the ‘betterment of their communities and providing essential services’. The purpose of the strategy is to identify a pathway to develop and support a strong social enterprise sector in County Cavan.
The focus of the research was to gain an insight into the social enterprise sector in Cavan, including activities, challenges, supports, and policies required, as well as the opportunities for social enterprise development in the county. The strategic plan was developed as a result of a research process that included one-to-one discussion and desktop research.

The launch of the report was hosted by Gallonray House, Maudabawn, Cootehill, Co. Cavan. This is a fine example of a social enterprise providing a range of services from a purpose-built, multifunctional community centre.
A very informative day was had by all and we look forward to what the future has in store for the social enterprise sector in Ireland.
